Mix Review – Stonewall Kitchen Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts

I said it last week – I’m not usually one for boxed mixes of any kind if possible.  But this week, hubby came home with a must try, so today I schlepped it to Sur la Table for a doughnut pan to make cinnamon-sugar doughnuts from a mix by Stonewall Kitchen.  We’ve used their mixes in the past, and although they haven’t been a hit as much as Ina’s, we’ve been pleased.  Today was money.

The mix itself is very simple – one packet of doughnut mix, another of cinnamon sugar for the topping.  Basically, all I did was add 1/3 cup melted butter, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup milk to the dough mix, and pipe each cavity of a doughnut pan half full.  Bake for 9 minutes at 350, and one slightly cooled, dip in melted butter and then in the cinnamon sugar.  Fantastic.  To a Native Texan, it tasted just like a homemade Churro.  Que bueno.

Overall Grade: A+
